You need a PostScript expansion kit to print PS to the Sharp MX2600N. I believe the PPD's provided by Sharp are PS PPD's. Use gutenprint HP LaserJet 4 drivers in CUPS to print to the Sharp MX2600N. I believe this only prints black, not color - but I haven't verified this. Hope this helps others that are trying to print to the Sharp MX2600N via OS X.
You may think you have it setup correctly via the Sharp-provided PPD's, and CUPS agrees that it is setup correctly, but when you print a test page, nothing comes out. Gutenprint (gimp-print) saves the day. Greg sahli wrote: For color: try installing the pxlcolor/pxlmono multipart driver set: This is definitely the preferred method. Get this PPD file to get color: The PPD file alone will not work without the Foomatic-RIP and Ghostscript packages.
There is also a problem or Mac OS X users with just using the PPDs from OpenPrinting.org. The line.cupsFilter: 'application/vnd.cups-pdf 0 foomatic-rip' will prevent certain job options (landscape, duplex, grayscale, etc) from working. This is due to the way Foomatic-RIP has implemented the PDF workflow for Linux distros. It relies on the Poppler pdftopdf filter which is not available for Mac OS X. The cupsFilter line I mentioned should be deleted for OS X users. I have a script that anyone can use to correct OpenPrinting.org PPDs.
It can be downloaded from. The script will look at all printers that have been added and make the necessary correction. At present, the Mac OS X pxlmono package does contain the modified cupsFilter lines and will work properly. The hpijs-3.9.2 package contain problematic PPDs. Users of that package should run my script. A new hpijs package will hopefully be released in the near future that will contain modified PPDs that will work properly.
